Norwich’s relentless march towards automatic promotion from League One continued as they strolled to their 12th win in 14 matches with a 3-0 victory over Yeovil.
Leading scorers Wes Hoolahan, Grant Holt and Chris Martin all hit the target to take their cumulative total of goals up to 60 as Norwich dismissed the challenge of the visitors with a minimum of fuss.
With Darel Russell completing a three-match ban, Lambert named an unchanged side from last week’s 1-0 win at Oldham. However, there were two changes on the bench, with loan signing Stephen Elliott, included at the expense of Tom Adeyemi.
Declan Rudd returned as substitute goalkeeper in place of Jed Steer after missing two matches with a back strain, whilst defenders Adam Drury and Zak Whitbread and striker Cody McDonald were still sidelined by injury.
The Canaries took less than two minutes to grab the initiative as Hoolahan opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season after Holt’s header from Anthony McNamee’s corner had struck the post.
Lambert’s side went on to dominate the remainder of the game and should have doubled their advantage just before half time when Holt played a one two with Chris Martin and rounded keeper Alex McCarthy, only to hit the side netting.
City duly wrapped up the points 20 minutes from the end with another scrappy goal, after McNamee’s cross from the right was headed high up into the air by Terrell Forbes and Holt was on hand to convert from inside the six yard box, when McCarthy missed his punch.
The win was made safe six minutes later when Holt set up Martin for his 20th goal of the season, with the striker’s shot trickling into the back of the net after being only half stopped by the keeper.
It was a comfortable win for Lambert’s side, with Yeovil seldom threatening, and Terry Skiverton’s side have now conceded 10 goals in three meetings with City this season.
