Lambert on the look out

After being forced to re-shuffle his defence on Saturday, City boss Paul Lambert is to step up his search for another right back.

Adam Drury filled in at right back for the Canaries covering the absence of injured trio Jon Otsemobor, Michael Spillane and George Francomb, and whilst the City boss had no complaints with Drury’s performance, he has admitted he is short of cover on the right side of defence.

Lambert failed in his bid to bring in a loan defender before last weekend and is hoping Otsemobor will return from injury in time for this weekends FA Cup trip to the West Country, with a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Swindon following three days later.

Michael Spillane, who has had six games at right back this season, suffered a setback in training last week, whilst George Francomb’s third senior appearance, against Swindon nine days ago, was cut short by a thigh injury and he is unlikely to make a quick return to action.

Adam hits the mark

Adam Drury

Adam Drury

Adam Drury’s loyalty to Norwich City reached a new landmark on Saturday, as the defender notched up his 300th appearance in yellow and green.

Drury joined City from Peterborough United in March 2001, and although a number of chances have come along for him to move away from Carrow Road he has stuck with Norwich through the highs and the lows, admitting that he has no regrets at his decisions.

The highs and lows have not only been evident for City, but also for Drury, with the highs seeing him captain the side to the Premiership in 2004 and the lows seeing the defender plagued by injuries over the past two seasons.

The left back moved from Peterborough United in 2001, with an endorsement from Barry Fry that he was the “best left back outside of the Premier League” and took very little time to fit into proceedings at Carrow Road.

The defenders 300th appearance would have come around sooner had it not been for the injuries, but Drury admits he has loved every minute at Norwich and doesnt want it to end yet.

Drury has now notched up more appearances this season than he has in the previous two but still had a lot of work to do when Bryan Gunn departed and Paul Lambert arrived, especially with summer signing Rhoys Wiggins waiting in the background.

It appears however, despite the previous injury problems, that Drury also has the endorsement of his new boss with Lambert admitting the defender is a terrific professional.

November 2, 2009 in News, Norwich City FC by Nelson's Revenge

Reports from across the Irish Sea are suggesting that two Newry City youngsters will be on trial with Paul Lambert’s side this week.

Ruairi Devlin made his full debut for Newry City against Linfield on Saturday, and is expected to be joined by Paddy Mooney for their Colney trial.
